Description
Our house is situated at Mt Burrell in the south end of the Tweed Valley. The house sits at the top of a spur over looking a small valley and commands wonderful views of Wollumbin and the Border ranges national park. We built the pole frame house in 1990-91 using local hardwood poles. The frame is recycled hardwood with sand sawdust cement infill. The building is 20 meters long and 8 meters wide , and includes a 3 meter wide raised verandah. Presently the house is divided into one open plan living /kitchen area with two small bedrooms and one large bedroom with enclosed sleepout opening off the verandah. There is a wood stove and the electricity is 12 volt solar. The water supply comes from both dam and a 5000 gallan tank. There is a power pole close by but the cost of converting to 240 v power is prohibitive. The property the house is on is a Tweed Shire Council approved Multiple Occupancy. The M.O. is called Mebbin Rocks and has 17 share holders who manage the property under company title. Mebbin Rocks was established in 1981 and is approximately 56 h in size, the majority of the land is now regrowth forest. The section of the property where our house is a relatively cleared and open area, The house in fronting a tar road and approximately 500 meters from the main road and bus stop. Mt Burrell area has a robust local community with Mt Burrell Caravan park providing a focus with a Cafe, fruit market, bottle shop and convenience store. Murwillumbah is 40 minutes drive north and Nimbin is 20min drive east into the Richmond valley The house has been occupied by persons other than our family for a while and as a result the property is presently is undergoing a maintaince regimen.
